Dr. Jakob Nickerson completed his Doctor of Dental Surgery at Dalhousie University in 2019, where he was awarded the Dr. Sheridan Cyrus Award in recognition of exemplary patient care, communication, leadership, and practice management. Prior to dental school, he earned his Bachelor of Science with Honours from Acadia University. Dr. Nickerson also completed a General Practice Residency at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, gaining additional experience in sedation, emergency dentistry, oncology care, and the treatment of medically complex patients. He is passionate about creating a comfortable, positive experience for patients and enjoys helping people feel at ease in the dental chair. Outside the clinic, Dr. Nickerson enjoys skiing, cycling, golfing, travelling, and cooking. He is also very musical and plays guitar, piano, and drums — including performing as the drummer in his dental school band, “Profound Anesthesia”(we know, very punny). Lately, he has been on a mission to perfect the ultimate chocolate chip cookie recipe (and thinks he’s getting pretty close!). Dr. Nickerson lives in Halifax with his wife and son and is excited to welcome patients to Basin View Smiles.

Dr. Cecilia Giermindl, originally from Sussex, NB. moved to NS to complete her BSc at St. Francis Xavier University. She later obtained her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Dalhousie Dentistry. Dr. Cecilia Giermindl enjoys treating patients of all ages and is dedicated to providing compassionate and personalized dental care. With a commitment in building lasting relationships with each patient, Dr. Giermindl combines clinical skill with a gentle touch to ensure every patient feels comfortable and confident in their dental treatment. Outside of the dental office, Dr. Giermindl enjoys spending time with family and friends, travelling, cooking and having an active lifestyle.

Dr. John Steeves is passionate about providing exceptional, patient-focused dental care and believes that creating a positive experience is just as important as delivering outstanding clinical treatment. With decades of experience, he is known for his gentle approach, thoughtful communication, and commitment to helping every patient feel comfortable and confident in their smile. Originally from the Maritimes, Dr. Steeves earned his Bachelor of Science from St. Francis Xavier University before completing his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at Dalhousie University. Following dental school, he proudly served eight years in the Canadian military before opening and operating his own successful dental practice in Fredericton, New Brunswick, where he cared for patients for almost 30 years. In 2015, Dr. Steeves returned to Halifax. He joined the team at Basin View Smiles at the end of 2024, where he continues to enjoy building lasting relationships with patients and providing compassionate, personalized care. Outside the clinic, Dr. Steeves enjoys spending time with his wife, Jane, their four children, and twelve grandchildren. Dentistry has truly become a family affair, with one of his children following in his footsteps to become a dentist as well. An avid golfer and tennis player, Dr. Steeves takes every opportunity to get out on the course—and enjoys playing tennis several times a week. This summer, he also fulfilled a lifelong dream by travelling to Wimbledon, crossing one more item off his bucket list. Dr. Steeves looks forward to welcoming both new and returning patients and helping them achieve healthy, confident smiles in a warm and caring environment.

Dr. Miranda Walsh grew up in Windsor, NS with dental being a huge part of her life. Following in the footsteps of her father, Dr. Walsh completed her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) at Dalhousie University after she graduated from Acadia University, with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. The pull of home has brought her back to NS after starting her dental career in Calgary, AB. She is passionate about building strong relationships with patients, in order to provide them with the best possible care. She enjoys all aspects of general dentistry, and excels at working with children. Dr. Walsh also will be providing nitrous treatment to patients here at Basinview Family Dentistry. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, skiing, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. We are so excited to have Dr. Walsh join our team.

Dr. Kholoud Aljiboury graduated with her dental degree from Baghdad University and went on to receive specialty training and a Master’s degree in Pediatric dentistry from the University of London, UK. After several years of practicing in the Middle East, she moved to Nova Scotia with her family and completed her DDS at Dalhousie university. She practiced at Granville Dental Centre and Lozowski & Hadad Family Dental, while also teaching part time at Dalhousie University Department of Clinical Sciences. Due to family circumstances she moved to Saudi Arabia and practiced as a consultant Pediatric Dentist at the Royal Clinic and taught part time at Riyadh Elm University & King Saud University. In 2019 she returned to Nova Scotia and joined Basin View Family Dentistry. With many years of knowledge and experience working with children, she has limited her practice to pediatrics. Dr. Aljiboury is bilingual in Arabic and English and her priority is to make her patients dental experience more positive and relaxing. When she is not working, she spends her time with family, gardening outdoors, walking and swimming.
